Directions for use: pre-filled syringe
This fact sheet provides step-by-step instructions on how to inject the medication safely. This procedure may be used to inject yourself or a loved one.

- Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
- Prepare your supplies: the pre-filled syringe and an alcohol swab.
- Check the appearance of the liquid. Make sure that it matches the manufacturer's description.

- The medication must be injected under the skin (subcutaneous injection). Do not inject it into a vein or muscle.
- The best place to administer the injection is generally the thighs or abdomen. Your health care provider can help you determine which injection site to use. If administering into the abdomen, inject the pen at least 5 cm from the navel. The upper arm is also an option if someone else is administering the injection. Each new injection should be given at least 2.5 cm from the last injection sites.

- Clean the skin at the injection site with soap and water. If using an alcohol swab, allow the alcohol to dry before administering the injection.
- Remove the cap from the pre-filled syringe.
- Gently pinch the skin at the injection site.
- Quickly insert the needle at a 45- or 90-degree angle, depending on the technique you were taught.
- Slowly inject the medication, then remove the needle.
- Dispose of the pre-filled syringe in a safe container designated for this purpose.
