Common uses
This medication is typically used to empty the intestines in preparation for a diagnostic procedure.
How to use this medication
This product is a purgative that causes diarrhea. It is used primarily to cleanse the bowel prior to X-ray examination. Prepare according to directions. Do not add anything to the solution and do not consume any solid foods during the 3-hour period before drinking the solution.
To use, rapidly drink one cup (8 ounces) of the solution every 10 minutes until there is none left or until diarrhea is clear. Diarrhea will begin within one hour of drinking the first cup. You may experience bloating, nausea and cramping while taking this solution. These effects will disappear quickly.
Do not eat solid foods until the examination is completed. You may however drink clear liquids (water, broth, etc.).
Generally, this medication is used only as needed.
Possible side effects
In addition to its desired action, this medication may cause some side effects, notably:
- it may cause bloating;
- it may cause stomach ache;
- it may cause chills;
- it may cause nausea and vomiting;
- it may increase thirst.
Storage information
Before its use, this product can be stored at room temperature. Once reconstituted, keep it in the refrigerator and do not allow it to freeze. Make sure that any leftover portion is disposed of safely.
General information

- Your medical history and allergies (medication, food, or other);
- If you're pregnant or want to become pregnant, or if you're breastfeeding;
